A wonderfully decorative piece of Georgian art, a stylised depiction of a double handled urn vase with foliate detail. Painted in oil on canvas, the canvas is from George Rowney & Co. based in Oxford Street, London at the time, in shades of laurel and olive green. Framed as if for a decorative panel, it makes for a lovely composition with good touches of light and shade.
There are some great signs of its long life beyond the surface tears, with a stamp to the side indicating it may once have been referenced as part of a larger collection. A pencil note to the reverse of the canvas lists colour references, possibly a mix for a 200 year of painting palette.
England, c.1815
Approx. dimensions: H 31cm x W 23cm x D 1.5cm
