French 19th Century Carved Wood Mirror

£190.00

Restrained but with plenty of charm, a simple wood carved wall mirror with feather scrolled crest. Traces of the original gilt paint have faded to add a wonderful surface interest and patina, and reveal the richly aged wood beneath, possibly oak.

The mirror plate is largely clear with some very light foxing in places, nothing to obscure its use, and signs of historic woodworm. Its reverse has some more modern script, possibly used as some impromptu signage at some point over its history.

Approx. dimensions: H 57.5cm x W 39cm x D 4cm

France, c.1850
