The first features the marble sculpture of ‘Cupid and Psyche Standing’ by Canova, presented in 1801, with the god and the mortal admiring a butterfly.
The second sculpture, ‘Cupid Presenting a Rose to a Butterfly’ by Antoine-Denis Chaudet, 1802, has Cupid again with a butterfly, which represents both the embodiment of the earthly soul and Psyche herself.
