19th Century Chinese Jichimu Wood Chair
A 19th century Chinese jichimu wood ‘Official’s Hat’ chair, with curved, splayed arms and a wonderful age to the wood which softens the formality of the piece. Simple decorative details give an overall impression of restraint, and in terms of provenance there is an aged Chinese import label still attached to the interior. Of great proportions and imperiously straight backed (frankly it is quite enjoyable to sit in).
There are signs of its age, most notably to the top of the chair back, which is solid but will be lift if forced but the wooden joints can be easily reinforced if required. There is wear to the tip of one arm and scratches to the base of the chair back but these serve to add to an impression of age and use rather than to detract.
