Antique French Plaster Relief Medallion
Another 19th century piece, modelled after the classical intaglio, as a decorative Grand Tour style collectible. Slightly larger in scale than the originals from antiquity, the subject of the bas-relief cameo is unknown but has the serious countenance of a philosopher type. A delicate and lightweight plaster piece, would look well propped, laid or hung with the simple addition of a hook to the back.
