ANTIQUE WHITE ALABASTER PLAFONNIER

£0.00
Spoken For

Acquired from Sweden, an early 20th century plafonnier, later electrified. Suspended by ochre silk braid blended with a dark cotton core, tassel topped with an alabaster rose.

Latterly added and sitting discretely within the bowl is the plate that holds lampholders for three bulbs. The transparent cord for which runs the length of one of the braids up to the outside of the rose (which we have left untouched to accommodate different methods of hanging).

The bowl itself is in very good condition, besides the natural veining of the alabster there are some discrete nips and chips but it is a solid and beautiful piece of natural stone. Delicately carved with an elegantly curved rim, bead detail and typically Art Deco starburst to the underside. The suspending textile braids are frayed in parts as is to be expected of a piece of such age but in a manner that adds charm and are still resolutely sound.

Measures approx. 78cm in drop by 35cm bowl diameter
